Hearing Evaluations in the Comfort of Your Own Home
Whether you're concerned about your hearing or simply due for a check-up, our at-home hearing evaluation service brings expert care directly to you in Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, and the surrounding Dorset & Hampshire areas. Key to Hearing helps you find clarity without the hassle of a high street clinic.
Signs You Might Have Hearing Loss: Do I Need Help?
Did you know that around 1 in 6 people in the UK have some degree of hearing loss? Taking care of your ears is just as important as visiting a dentist or optician. If you notice any of the signs below, we recommend you book a home visit with us straight away:
You frequently ask people to speak up or repeat themselves.
You find it difficult to hear conversations when there is background noise, like in a cafe or with the TV on.
Friends or family have mentioned that you may be struggling to hear.
You can't pinpoint where sounds are coming from.
If your hearing loss has come on suddenly, comes and goes, or affects one ear more than the other, we recommend you visit your GP.
Why a Home Hearing Test is the Better Choice
For many, a traditional hearing clinic can be inconvenient and intimidating. Our home visit service offers a more comfortable and personal alternative, making it easier to discuss your concerns openly and get the expert care you need.
Unrivalled Convenience: Instead of taking the time and trouble to visit a high street clinic, we come to you. This service is also ideal if you are a caregiver for a loved one in a care home or assisted living facility.
A Personalised Experience: Our audiologist, Keeley Salmon, will take the time to fully understand your lifestyle and concerns, making your test a relaxed and positive experience.
The Right Environment: Testing your hearing in a familiar, comfortable setting can often provide a more accurate picture of your day-to-day hearing challenges.
What to Expect: Your Personal Hearing Evaluation
If you've never had a hearing test before, there’s nothing to worry about. The process is completely painless, and Keeley will guide you through every step. Your 1 ½ to 2 ½ hour appointment is completely focused on your personal needs.
1. Introductory chat: Keeley will get to know you and discuss your concerns, medical history, and lifestyle. This helps her understand your unique situation.
2. Ear health check: Using a magnifying otoscope, Keeley will perform a visual inspection of your ear canal to check for any issues like wax build-up or infection.
3. Your hearing test: Using comfortable insert earphones that expand into the ear canal to help quieten any background noise, Keeley will play a series of tones and words to assess how you hear different pitches and volumes. This ensures an accurate test even in your home environment.
“We use ‘in the ear’ headphones with foam ear-tips that help block out ambient noise, reducing distractions and making sure your test results are accurate. These headphones are more comfortable than the traditional ‘over the head’ ear cups used in many high street clinics, and are also more hygienic as the foam ear-tips are single-use. If necessary, we’ll test the level of ambient noise in your home before starting your assessment, to make sure it’s below acceptable levels” - About our headphones
4. Your results: Keeley will explain your audiogram (a chart of your results), letting you know which grade of hearing loss you have and what sounds you might be missing out on.
5. Next Steps: We will discuss your options, which may include a demonstration of suitable hearing aids. There is no obligation to proceed with our services.
